At the Stephen Byram, we prepare and arrange MOTs to government regulations, testing important parts of your vehicle to make sure they meet the legal standards. During the MOT all the required car parts as shown in the diagram below will be tested. These include brakes, lights, electrical wiring, wipers and washers, steering and suspension, seatbelts, the fuel system, exhaust system and emissions, mirrors, tyres, and bodywork. The engine, clutch or gearbox are not tested as these need a car service, which we can do at the same time if required.
Once the test is complete we’ll let you know if it’s a pass or a fail. If your car fails for any reason, we will explain in full why it has failed, and what it will cost to remedy it. With your consent, we will then start the repair and complete it to a level that will then pass the MOT re-test. If your car passes the test, you will be issued with a certificate and you can drive away with peace of mind for another 12 months.
You must get an MOT for your car by either the third anniversary of its registration or before one year of its last MOT if it’s over 3 years old. Your MOT lasts for a year, so you must re-test before it runs out, but the earliest you can get an MOT is up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out – but you will keep the same renewal date.
If you do not know when your renewal date is you can get a free MOT reminder by text message or email a month before your MOT is due. And please note, that you can be fined up to £1,000 for driving a vehicle without a valid MOT.
At our Stephen Byram, we charge the government-recommended fee for the MOT and do not charge for a re-test. We only use the highest quality and manufacturer recommended oils and fluids and never overcharge our work.
