Remedy squeaky brakes & improve your car safety

Car Brake Testing Car Brake Testing

The importance of properly functioning brakes should be obvious, without fully efficient performance your car stopping distance will be longer and you could be at risk of a serious accident. Stephen Byram Motor Engineers take safety very seriously, which is why we provide brakes and brake testing for a range of vehicles.

When we carry out a brake test, we need to check:

  • Brake pads and shoes
  • Anti-lock brakes
  • Hand brakes
  • Master cylinders
  • Calipers and wheel cylinders
  • Brake fluids and lubricants

We also look at coil springs, the clutch, the gearbox and run system diagnostics to provide a fully comprehensive brake test service. To ensure that your brakes are always working at their optimum, it is recommended that you have all aspects of your braking system routinely inspected – especially before undertaking a long journey.

Your brakes are one of the most important parts of your car, and you should regularly have them tested

How to know if I need brake testing?

More often than not, issues with brakes can be detected very early, which is why we recommend having a car service at least once a year. Often it may feel like a problem with your brakes has come out of nowhere, but if you watch out for any of the following symptoms you can detect issues before they become problematic.

  • A quivering motion when applying your brakes
  • Rear wheel locking when you brake
  • Grinding or squeaking noises
  • Your car veers to one side as you brake

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, you need to have your car tested and should contact us as soon as possible.
